Helping Your Child Transition Smoothly
Starting at St. Catherine’s Early Education Centre is a big step for your child and family. To ensure a smooth transition, we’ve provided some helpful tips to create a comforting and reassuring experience for everyone.
Bring Along a Comfort Item
Familiar items from home can help your child feel secure as they adjust to their new environment. Consider bringing a dummy, snuggle toy, sleep blanket, favourite toy, or even a family photo. These personal items can provide a sense of comfort throughout the day.
Create a Positive Goodbye Routine
Goodbyes are an important part of the transition process. Keep the routine short and positive—give your child a warm hug, let them know when you’ll return (e.g., “after work”), and avoid lingering. While some children may protest initially, they will quickly learn that you always return.
Stay Connected Throughout the Day
Our educators are here to support both you and your child. Shortly after drop-off, you’ll receive an update on how your child is settling in. If you’d like further reassurance, feel free to call us at any time—each room is equipped with a phone, and we’re always happy to provide updates.
